She was born with a rare genetic disorder. The biggest concern with her is that she is 100% dependant on others for her care and weighs 75-80lbs.She needs to be lifted and transferred through out the day and feels quite heavy. She is in a wheelchair and we also have a bath lift in the tub and a special toilet seat on the toilet. She is blind and can see very bright light and shadows. She is also unable to walk and wears AFO's (leg braces). She can walk with assistance and has parallel bars to practice walking on her own and has a stander. Lastly she has about an 8 word vocabulary and understands everything. She can answer yes and no all day long. She is on a pureed diet due to no stomach acids. We usually feed her but at times work on self feeding with a special weighted spoon. She feeds herself lunch with assistance at school. Our daughter is happy all of the time and loves to be outside just staring at the sun, or riding on the back of her bike and swinging on her handicap swing in the backyard. She plays t-ball and horseback rides. She also enjoys swimming at school and the music at church. If any of this sounds of interest we are looking to add a new family member long term. We do travel often with and without our daughter depending on the nature of the travel so some travel would be involved. Our daughters care taker now is an absolutely amazing woman of 61yrs. She has been with us for a long time and is definitely part of our family. We moved to MD 3yrs ago from SC and she has been going back and forth ever since.
